Course: The Passive Investor Game Plan

This course is designed to provide participants with a step-by-step guide for creating a well-diversified passive investment portfolio. The emphasis here is on crafting and executing a passive strategy. This material is likely not relevant for investors who are committed to active strategies.
Course Content: among others, the following questions will be addressed: What is investing? What is passive investing? How does passive investing differ from active investing? Is an advisor needed to execute a passive plan? How is an asset allocation plan created? How does one identify diversified stock and bond funds for investment? How are trades executed? How does one open a trading or investing account? How does one monitor and rebalance the portfolio over time?
Participants may have an opportunity to use a trading simulator to execute make-believe purchases and sales of stocks.
By following along with the exercises outlined in the book investors will go through the motions required to set up a real passive investment portfolio.
Textbook(s): Dr Yuval Bar-Or’s book: Play to Prosper: The Passive Investor’s Game Plan (2011) will be used throughout the course.
Course Hours: Six sessions of 90 minutes each, delivered online, for a total of 9 in-class hours.
Preparation: Participants are encouraged to read relevant textbook chapters in preparation for sessions. The textbook page numbers are provided immediately following topic titles in the detailed outline, below. Participants may also be directed to selected magazine or newspaper articles.

Missed sessions: Course sessions will be recorded and our intention is to make these recordings available to participants for 30 to 45 days after their original broadcasts.
